The condition of shingles without a rash is known as zoster sine herpete. It is not common. It is also very difficult to diagnose since the usual shingles rash is not present. The symptoms of the condition are similar to that of shingles, but without a rash. The symptoms are mainly isolated to one side of the body and occur on the face and neck, and in the eyes. Signs can also occur in the internal organs. Common symptoms are such as a painful burning sensation, itchiness a feeling of numbness, a headache, fatigue, a general achy feeling, pain that radiates from the spine, and sensitivity to touch.
It is unknown why VZV reactivates as shingles in some people. It often occurs in people with weaken immune systems. The immune system may become weakened because of chemotherapy or radiation for cancer, HIV, AIDS, high doses of corticoid steroids, an organ transplant, and high stress levels.
The condition is not contagious and cannot give someone else shingles. If a person has shingles and are in contact with someone who has not had chickenpox or has not get vaccines for chickenpox, then the person can caught chickenpox. That person will have to come in direct contact with the shingles rash. A person shall be consumed medication like Valtrex to control the rashes as well itching.

This condition without a rash is not common, but it might be more common than previously thought since it often goes undiagnosed. The infection without a rash is not easy to diagnose based on the symptoms alone. Medical history is also helpful for the diagnosis, and Valtrex like medication shall be taken to treat it.
