All over the world most of the people are affected by mental illness directly or indirectly. It can be through family, friends or co-workers. The sad truth is that people outcast a person diagnosed with mental disorder. It is observed that society have the toxic tendency to criminalize mental disorders.

To eradicate misconception about the mental illness, each year in the first week of October, people come together to raise awareness of mental illness. This year Oct 6 to Oct 12, 2019 is widely celebrated as Mental Illness Awareness Week. During this week various social groups educate people about the mental disorders and support them to fight stigma.

This week is an opportunity to focus on mental health stigma and know as to how it affects the life of people around the world. Mental illness like Schizophrenia

is a kind of mental state in which a person and caregiver need to adjust daily.



People with Schizophrenia are often recognized as unseen monsters and are safely locked away in militarized institutions. The condition is treatable with proper medication, care, and affection. It is been observed that 70 to 90% of individuals improved their lives after proper treatment and support.

Living with mental illness like Schizophrenia is not easy. It becomes difficult to deal with the reactions from the society. The battle against the mental condition would have been easier if society show little compassion towards mentally ill people.

These conditions can be seen in childhood also. The trusted source recently revealed that 7.7 million children aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder every year. The ratio is one out of six children. It is an alarming sign to some bigger condition.

People assume the worst for mental illness. During the Mental Illness Awareness Week, most of the social groups work to encourage people to raise their voice so as to stop stigma. Have meaningful conversations about mental health with the society. Form a group to support individuals suffering from a mental illness. Let people know that recovery is possible. This condition is not an outcome of bad upbringing. It is time to hold hands together and fight this monster of mental conditions.
